CANPOY HOUSE Horizontal City / Year 2022 Fall / Columbia GSAPP Core Studio III / Type - Housing Studio / Location - Bronx, New York City / Instructor - Benjamin Cadena / Collaborative work with Burcu Turkay

The canopy House is a low-rise urban living brings residents closer to the ground, fostering a connection with nature and community. Housing units cluster around courtyards, creating a porous landscape that encourages pedestrian activity and a sense of belonging. This low-rise housing complex introduces publicly accessible open spaces, greenery, and a revitalized waterfront. The design features cantilevered units on upper floors, maximizing open space at ground level, where nature takes precedence. Channel glass facades and a light steel structure give the building a hovering, canopy-like aesthetic, blending architecture seamlessly with its natural surroundings.
